Amazing spot. Lovely vendors serving delicious food!
Went here today for my daughters birthday ,she ordered 2 coctails which took an hour and a half to eventually arrive in plastic glasses at ten euro each , both mine and her meals arrived freezing cold but so hard to get a member of staff to complain to we just ate it , charged for the cocktails couldnt believe it and the place wasnt the cleanest either , wont be back very disapointed .
The food is amazing here. Unfortunately, Bernard Shaw hasnt followed their word with wearing masks. I was told staff wear masks at all times but this was far from the case when I went there. None of the waiters/waitresses wore masks when I attended. I understand it is hard wearing masks for long hours. However, if can doctors do it, others can too. Otherwise, wouldve given a higher rating
Please continue getting club matte!
Sort your staff out. The rudeness from the "waitress" that served us was in unbelievable. I'd be embarrassed if she was my employee. Threw our drinks and food at us. Wouldn't split the bill. There's a pandemic on you'd think they would be happy with the custom considering it was 90% empty. Then she decided to start fight with us while we split the bill because we called her a waitress. Not sure what the PC name is now!! Won't be returning after being long-term customers on both sides of the city.
One of the best bars in Dublin, and one of the few that has a real sense of character. Been coming here for years and always has a welcoming atmosphere and relaxed vibe, and full of quirky interesting people. Unfortunately the relentless machine of capitalism never stops turning and the Bernard Shaw is closing forever to make way for some hotels. RIP
Went there for a bit of drinks and grubs, the yule yard was just OK Not enough option, for food decided to go inside from food because it way too cold. There was very limited options for food, got chicken and hamburger 🍔. (14euros) Absolutely disappointed, the burger was very dry, with barely any chicken, no even toasted. No sauce with made it worst and lots of veg. Had to ask for extra sauce. It looks like very food was just slap on. Also the staff weren't as trained, with lack of waiting skills. The Bernard Shaw was a true disappointed.
Arrived at 7pm, was guided to a table given complimentary water, i was a long time big customer from the porterhouse days, me and the gf sat there for 15 mins not one staff came to take a drink order or food order even though a staff member asked us where we here for food and sat us at a table and handed us menus very robotic service, as we got up to leave after been left there with not one staff walked by for over 10 mins a lady came out no where is everything ok as we stood up, i said no were here 15mins and no came to take our food order, she said well i will now, i said honestly you never even walked by the last 15 mins. I tink the staff turnover is shocking, and this has become to commercialised and lost its sense of customer care, sorry guys.I dont think ill be back after 6 years of an honest customer. My time to say say goodbye is now.
3rd time to try this place and wont be back. Food awful, eggs were like rubber and inedible. The place was freezing. There are quite a few other nice pubs in the area that will be getting my custom instead. Don't know what all the fuss was about this pub when it was Southside, I really wouldn't bother, unless you like your wine overpriced and from a plastic glass. Down with this sort of thing 😖
It is far from what Bernard Shaw was.But it is a good PUB. Should consider call it another name as Bernard Shaw links to old style.
Food is lovely, waitress was very obliging, bar staff was OK. However techno music doesn't bring in the punters. OK place for having a catch up with friends. I did look at the website earlier to check there was a DJ, it didn't say techno. And that horrible smell of sewage is disgusting, when I read previously in reviews about that smell, I assumed it would have been sorted by now after the Xmas and New Year. Speaking of toilets, they were filthy. Pity, we used to come to this place regularly before it changed hands, to unwind after a hard week working and dance our stresses away. We won't be back. 🙁
I love this place. The new location suits me also 👍🏻 great venue, staff, drinks and food. And dogs are always a plus
First time in the new shaw, disappointed to say the least. It had big boots to fill and it didnt fill them. First the smell of the bar was disgusting like sick and flies everywhere. Not enough seats. The vibe has changed. The smoking area is tiny in the eat yard and not enough heaters. The disco balls are nice but not much of a buzz about the place. Its missing space and space that brings people together unintentionally. Hope they can improve. Too many food stalls and no big blue bus!
I loved the old Shaw but this place is a poor replacement. Like ordering fresh crab and getting imitation crab meat. They should have just changed the name and let the Shaw memory live in peace. The eat yard is too small and it’s mixed with the smoking area so I hope you like the smell of cigs when eating.I love my goodness, I just wish they were in a better spot in dublin. The inside just reminds me of a American warehouse restraunt. No personality and quite ugly.
Really big space. Kinda spendy for being away from city centre. Not a lot of seating at the bar. Nice pub overall though.
The new Bernard Shaw is amazing, the stuff there is so kind! Try the food in eatyard beside then.
Nice place for a bite and a drink. although lost its character of the previous location.
Great atmosphere lovely staff and social distancing measures observed. Toilets not great. Food was delicious.
Much higher brow that the old version, the Bernard Shaw is clean and comfortable with kitsch art deco features. Food is good, but not for vegans!
The interior looks cool and the idea is great, but the smell in the place is dreadful. We had one drink and left. Not planning to return. Would recommend the owners to address the issue asap.
Delighted to see the Bernard Shaw back in action after their previous location was robbed in the name of western civilised greed (aka another hotel). They have tried very hard to retain the old atmosphere from the previous location and the staff are lovely too. I do hope that they find a more spacious location in the future if they ever look to move again as I loved the size of the smoking area from the old location, with the blue bus taking centre place too.
Very nice place! It’s a little bit expensive but to have some beers and order nachos it’s perfect.Perfect for a plan with friends
This place was an essential part of my youth and my twenties. It’s so sad that it is no more. RIP Big Bern.
It's a nice place. The atmosphere is nice and I like the food area. However, I would have preferred more seating outside
Friendly helpful staff tonight served by James top guy, good food good music and dog friendly.
Excellent service very friendly staff food is extremely nice and the venue itself is great crack
Nice place with great food. They have ambient music, but nothing too loud, so it's a great place to go have a pint and talk. I highly recommend the buffalo wings, they are hot but super tasty. The restaurant is quite big and able to accommodate a lot of people respecting the new rules with no problem, just don't forget to book a table in advance. It's close enough to the city center and there is a bus stop a few minutes from the pub.
Lovely pub. Friendly staff and really tasty food.
It was really an amazing place but I guess it's closed now & they have opened at a different location in Dublin. Surely miss this place.
Got some pizza in Eatyard... was absolutely delicious... highly recommended
Place was freezing eating our starters waitress brings out our main courses and puts them on the table even though still eating starters. Friend sent back the cheese burger looked like had been cooked ten years ago. Staff not one bit helpfull or polite really rude. When bill arrived there were drinks on we hadn't even had. We will definitely not be back.
Very good, socially distant, comfortable, dog friendly
Good food and does a nice pint of Guinness.
Nice modern bar , but lost the original rock n roll vibe which made the old Bernard Shaw so good. Now it might as well be any other generic bar in Dublin which caters for the cocaine fueled pop/dance scene.
One of the best burgers in Dublin. Great selection, good atmosphere.
The place is ok but the toilet and awful and a mess.
It's too cold inside during winter but nice service and food
Overall it is a nice place to have a drink. However, no cycle parking provided and instructions from the staff as to where to park it where unclear, no safe social distancing being practised between tables (which means large groups where allowed and customers where being seated at less than 2m apart from another table). PPE was being used by the staff which is good during the current pandemic and government appeals but the tables closest to the bar area were very crowded.
Great spot. The pizzas and other foods are brilliant! Awesome tunes. Great vibes allround !
On a stormy Monday night the winds were high and so were the prices! €4 for a Glass of Guinness! Are you actually having a laugh, I sat down to enjoy my libation only to be greeted by a gust of poo, that wafted over the seating behind the bar and flowed in waves consistently.Haven't decided if I'll be back, but €4 is a bit much for a half especially if it's €5.80 for a pint
This is obviously one of the best spots in Dublin and what makes it for me is the legendary Asian lady in the eat yard who carry’s a constant smile and hands out free samples “She really gets it”Your dumplings are a real treat on the mouth
Lovely pub, great service, and good location
One of the best spots for nightlife and a good diverse crowd. I’ve never seen a fight here which is something! The pizza from the bus is good too. I heard rumours that they are going to close this place down to build a hotel. That would be another major blow to Dublin’s nightlife scene. I often run into Americans there who think the place is very unique and a great pub. Here’s hoping the Bernard Shaw remains open for many more years.
Freezing cold throughout the pub. Toilets were an absolutely disgusting. Know this building well from its days as the porterhouse and in my opinion the food is way wide of the mark, use to be good pizzas burgers and lots of chicken wings. Now it's food is not bad but no where near the same quality and quantity as the past owners of this pub in Phibsborough. Also the cost of pints is way way out of touch with the area. €5.80 for a pint of Guinness and €6.30 for hop House, would expect this price in temple bar or late at night on a Saturday may be understandable but not on Sunday watching the 4pm football. I do like that they are dog friendly, they add a good atmosphere to the place
Very groovy place, good music, beautiful aesthetically, perfect for a night out, however drink is on the more expensive side and not a whole lot of variety either.
A new location for a great bar. Doggie friendly, we just kept our dog in a leash under the table and no problems. Staff are lovely. Craft beers. The music was starting to ramp up around 22:00 so we headed off. Great smoking area and eat yard out the back. Would highly recommend.
Food was okay, nothing special. Staff were very helpful and nice atmosphere
Finally someone is taking advantage of the canal. Atmosphere is similar to the Barge now.
Really busy. But the staff tried their best. And always spending time with great ppl it is what really counts
The food IS OK the portion sizes are good. Prices are good aswell. Unfortunately I cannot recommend that place. The place is not the cleanest one (especially toilets but not only), the service is slow and doesn't know what is doing. The dessert was never served but I was asked to pay for it. The menu is limited but has vegetarian positions.
